Graduation

Last night I work one of the three cameras for the Graduation ceremony last night. The ceremony started with all the graduates making what seemed to be the slowest walk to their seats ever. The student speaker for the ceremony was Colin Burke. He spoke about his experiences from his middle school days up until his last days at Eastview. He also recaped what was a fantastic year for Eastview overall. The choir then sang a couple of songs leading in to the faculty speaker Mr. Hering. Hering spoke about this class being his favorite and all the experiences he had with them. Then all the students recieved their diploma holders and what seemed to be 5 hours of standing later, all the caps went soaring into the air and the ceremony was over. It was a great night for all the graduates and a terrible night for my legs.

Ashley's Joe petrulo v-sot

For my vsot I did a interview with senior Joe petrulo, our minnesota state golf champ. It was interesting because while he won state he shares his title with another golfer because of a tie. Alothough they didn’t do quite as well as him the gold team over all did an outstanding job as well. When meeting with Joe it was interesting to hear that he had been golfing sense he could walk. It was also funny to find that no one in his family has the same golfing ability as him.

Ashley's Science Olympiad

I did a story on the science olymipiad team. For not being a very well known team at our school they had an outstanding season. They took first in state, which sent them to nationals. Not only did they take first in state but they received the highest score ever given to a minnesotan team. You can tell from the time these students put in after school that they love what they do, and really work hard. The story previews some of the team members working on a bridge. They had to constuct a bridge that would hold a maximum amount of weight. This is just one of the many categroies they have a chance in participating in. Althought they didn’t place at nationals they appeard to have a great time, and were very happy to have made it that far.

The Last Day of School

Today, emotions flow through Eastview High School as the students reflect on the past year. From football games in the fall, to lacrosse state championship games, we had had an awesome year through athletics, arts, and academics. Our school stands above the rest in academics, we continue to retain some of the highest standardized test scores in the nation and it is all due to the hard work that Eastview High School students put in thoughtout their school year. Other than that, our choirs and bands, are recognized annuely by the state level, the national level, and even the international level. Overall, Eastview has soared the last year and will carry our tradion though the summer to next year.

Changes for 2009-2010

The school year is almost over, and soon the halls of Eastview will be empty. But while we're gone, a lot more is going on at the school than we think. Every year the administration has to make sure that the technology is updated. This includes getting more smart boards and lcd's. They are doing this because students learn better when they are more involved in the lesson, and these pieces of technology keep them involved. Also, for all the athletes out there, the weight room and indoor track is getting a new floor. The floor will be rubberized and should provide better cushion for athletes to avoid injury. Not everything changing about Eastview however deals with new arrivals. Three, and possibly more, of our great teachers our leaving, and I think that it's only right that we give them a proper goodbye to Patty Strandquist, Erin Nickelby, and Julie Endersbe.

Choir Concert

On June 1st, the Eastview Choir Department held its last concert of the year. The concert consisted of two parts, one starting at 6:00, and the other 7:30. The first concert consisted of multiple choirs from the lower and younger levels of the choir department. The second was performed by the more select choirs. The concert had many great performances, including an original composition, and a Star Wars song. The Star Wars song featured a full out lightsaber battle between both sides of the force. Overall, it was a good way for the department to end the year.

For almost a month now, Eastview's marching band has been getting ready for the season with a few relaxed practices. In these practices, director Rich Berggren has been teaching the band's newer members how to march, practiced warmups, and memorized music. The hope is that these practices will cut the time necessary for basics (marching technique, posture, etc.) later on in the season. The last of these practices was Tuesday, June 9th. The band will meet again on Friday, July 3rd to prepare for the Eagan and Apple Valley 4th of July parades, in which the band has historically made a very good showing. These practices have also given freshmen a taste of what marching band will be like before commitment forms were due. The freshmen seem very excited (and a bit nervous) about the upcoming season. Keep up the hard work, guys! It'll pay off later in the season!

On Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th, Eastview's ultimate frisbee team, zEUs, headed to the state tournament at the Twin City Polo Ground fields in Maple Plain, Minnesota. Despite the cold, rain, and wind, the team did well on Saturday, beating Henry Sibley 13-2, Mahtomedi 11-1, and White Bear Lake A 10-6, but losing to Cretin-Durham Hall 9-3. The team didn't fare so well in Sunday's improved conditions, however. After a tough 9-7 loss to Mounds View, Eastview beat Saint Paul Central 12-9. Sadly, their luck fell again as they lost to Southwest 10-8. Eastview then lost another tough 8-11 game to Eden Prairie in their final game, bringing them to a respectable twelfth place. However, this was not up to the team's expectations; they took seventh last year and the year previous, and were the six seed this year. The team has high hopes for next year, as the relatively young and talented team matures. Great job, guys (and girls), and good luck next year!

Brian's PSA blog

I chose to do my PSA on preparing for the ACT. This test is different because the students who take it in June have to days after school gets out. I talked with one of my tutors who works out of the Math Addvantage tutoring service place in Eagan and she said it was okay to film the place a little. All the information I presented on the PSA was given to me by her. The advice really paid off, for me at least. The editing process of the video took about two days, two because some Flash kids had to work on a story for their show, or something like that. Good luck to anyone taking the ACT on Saturday.

Laura Gengler's blog 2: Spring Dance Show

On Thurday June 4th and Saturday June 6th Eastview held its annual spring dance show. The theme for this spring dance show was 'movies'. It was an excellent show and both nights were sold out! The audience was packed and they all said they loved it! I was luckey enough to be a part of the dance show because I am in dance class hour 1. I perticipated in 4 dances out of 16 or more! Everyone in the show worked really hard to put on a good show for the audience. Some of the dances that were performed was solos, hip hop, and modern. The solos were performed by a couple girls in LDT. The majority of the dances were hip hop because moat classes picked that style of dance. And the modern dance was based of the movie Titanic to go along with the theme of movies. This year was very special becuase we had a WCCO channel 4 news man filming the preperation for the show. I was at Applebees when the show aired and it was really cool to see how fast the news team filmed, edited, and then aired that story. It was very timely! The story was about how Eastview's boys are getting involed in our dance program also. All in all, the show was very fun! All of our hard work deffinetely paid off.

Girls Track at State

This friday and Saturday 6 girls from the eastview girls track team qualified for state. I got the privledge to go along with the girls and be with them even though i did not qualify. The meet was at Hamlin University. Prelims were on friday and finals were on saturday. The 6 girls that qualified were sophmore, Anne Ferguson in the 800m and the 1600m. In prelims she qualified for the 3rd seed in the 800. in finals however she did not perform her best and did not get top 8 at state. The 4 by 100m relay composed of freshman, Paris Sanders, Junior, Mallory Burnham, and sophmores, Amanda and Alex Beckman. They did a wonderful job and got 1st in state with an amazing time of 48.49!! Junior, Taryn Dwyer tried very hard in Prelims but unfortunaetly did not make it to finals. Both for prelims and for finals the stadium was really packed. It was an amazing day on friday but ended up being an awful, cold and rainy day on saturday for finals. All six girls tried very hard and ended the 2009 season very well! good job girls!

-Laura Gengler
The EVHS dance department had their dance shows this past thursday and saturday. Every class has a dance, along with extra dances that people sign up for and solos. I performed both thursday and saturday night. The theme for the show was movies. Each night show went very well. I was in the slum dog millonaire dance, my class dance which was hour 2 space jam, the hannah montana dance and also the finale. Which everyone performs in the finale. On saturday night, channel 4 news actually came in and recorded some of it and the story aired that night at the 10 o'clock news.

Taylor Campbell Blog #2 spring dance show

On Thursday and Saturday night, Eastview held the spring dance show 2009. The theme was movies and each class had a song and dance that went along with a movie. There were songs from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, Ferris Bueler's day 0ff, Step up, center stage, slum dog millionaire, saw, dirty dancing, and titanic, just to name a few. Before almost every dance there was also a clip from the movie to let the audience know what dance the movie was from. WCCO channel 4 news was also there Saturday night, filming a story on how many boys get involved in dance at Eastview. It was cool to see the types of cameras and tripods they used. Overall the show was run smoothly and I think that everyone in the show, as well as the audience had tons of fun.

On Friday night the Eastview lightning boy's lacrosse team traveled to Mounds View to battle un-defeated Minnetonka for the State Championship. The boys battled the entire game and ended up losing the game 12 to 10. The boys played well, but every time Eastview managed to put one in the net. Minnetonka would respond by putting one in as well. Scoring for the lightning included D.J. Schliesman, Andy Freeman, and Justin Vossen. Congratulations on a successful season. and good lick next year!

Taylor Campbell- Blog #1

Yesterday afternoon, our entire school attended Eastview's academic award ceremony. During this time, seniors, state champions, and achidemic achivments were announced. It was a one hour presentation that actually went overtime. I think that it is actually super cool that the presentation went so long, because it just goes to show how hard working the students here at Eastview really are. It was set up alphabetically as each student walked up to Dr. Peterson and then to their assigned counslers. Personally I think that Colin Burke and Brooke Elliott's anouncements were the longest, as theu wereup there for at least 3 minutes. For some students sitting in the bleachers the ceremony was long and boring, but for other students and parents, it was a demonstartion of our hardworking and achidemic achieving school.

Choir Concert

On Monday June 3rd, I attended the Eastview Spring Choir. The first set of choir concerts began at 6, and the next group of choirs started around 7:30. The first groups that sang were the freshman mens choir, and the freshman womens choir. They did a great job as they sang pieces of all genres of music. The fan favorite was a song from star wars in which some members in the choir broke out into battle with lightsabers. The choirs were very well put together. Mr. Douma and Mrs. Sagen once again put together a great preformance that kept the audience attentive. Congratulations on a successful concert!

This past week the boys track team capped off their season at the Section 3AA meet. In a tough field of competitors the lightning managed to send a few on to the state meet. The big winner of the meet was sophomore Franky Veldamen. He came away with three gold medals and was a Triple Crown winner as he won all three jumping events. He will be accompanied by two of his jumping teammates Khalil Jordan and Shawn Wells. The jump team scored 52 out of the 89 point scored at the meet. They finished 3rd out of twelve teams. Senior Aarron Stevens place second in the 300 meter hurdles and will be moving on to state. Eric Brady also placed second which was enough to get him to the state meet. The boys had one of their best meets of the season and it came at the right time.

I went to the Boys lacrosse game against Eagan last night. It was their final section game and they won 12-6. There were great plays by all, the defense was doing an excellent job by keeping them out but the guys with the best game was probably, Rex, Blake and Andy. Scoring the first two goals were Rex, getting himself a hattrick by scoring the 11th goal also. Blake scored the 3rd, 5th and 8th goal, getting himself a hattrick also. Andy scored 4th, 7th and his final goal was 9th one also getting a hattrick. Other scorers were Luke getting the 6th one and DJ getting the 10th and 12th goal of the game. Overall it was an excellent game by all.

Inhouse Baseball Game

Wednesday night I attended the Eastview boys inhouse baseball game at First Baptist Church in Rosemount. It was a great game that started off with Brad Rudolph pitching. Nels Pederson also brought in many strike-outs while pitching later in the game. The boys put up a great fight throughout the entire game but ended up coming short. The final score of the game was nine to four with runs being brought in by Brad Rudolph, Anthony Stagner, Kyle Robatka, and one other person that I currently can't remember. Overall it was a great game and everyone on the team contributed greatly. I did a story on the inhouse baseball team and the game and it will air tomorrow (Friday). So for most of the game I just filmed but I did get to really watch the last couple innings. The teams next game is next Tuesday night.

National Honors Society Induction Ceremony

Last night I attended the National Honors Society Induction Ceremony as a current NHS member. There were probably about forty new members inducted and all current seniors were honored. The night began with many words of wisdom from Dr. Beach and Dr. Peterson. Following the opening comments was a speech delivered by Eastview Alumi James Hollman. James graduated in 2005 and now attends Stanford. He delivered an inspiring message about questioning everything and challenging yourself. Next, there were some more wise words from our current NHS president Elle Shultz. After that the event of saying the oath and inducting the many new sophomores and juniors began. This is a very exciting moment for them as I remember being inducted last year. After the completion of the induction, Dr. Beach took the time to honor our current seniors and give them their NHS cords. Then our new officers took the place of the old ones while bestowing many awards and scholarships. The night wrapped up with some wise words from our new current junior president, Sarah Malaske. Dr. Beach said his congratulations and we celebrated in the commons afterwards. The night overall was very eventful and memorable for our new and current members.

National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

Last night, Tuesday, May 26th Eastview’s National Honor Society gathered for their annual induction ceremony. The crowd was in for a surprise when James Hohmann, (a 2005 Eastview graduate, and a 2009 Stanford graduate) gave a tremendous speech on the four pillars of National Honor Society. The four pillars include character, service, leadership, and scholarship. He gave in depth insights about his past experiences. Furthermore, the passing of the torch occurred when it came to National Honor Society student leadership. As they said goodbye to year’s successful leaders, they now welcome the new class in town. Congratulations to President Sarah Malaske, Vice Presidents; Ben Kariya, Jordan McKeen, Secretary, Elizabeth Roeske, Treasurer, Hunter Miller, Historian, Victoria Hoffman, Dialogues Director, Sneha Somani, and Service Officers, Barbie Close and Kayla Hanson on leading Eastview’s Chapter of National Honor Society next year!

Prom 2009- Andrew Melroe

Last Saturday, Eastview held its annual prom. Students started filing in around 4:30 in the afternoon for the Grand March. Each couple got a chance to have their moment in the spotlight as their names were called out and they walked on to the stage in front of a full gymnasium. The Grand March lasted around two hours then, the students got in their limos and party buses and headed up to Minneapolis’s International Market Square where the party would soon start. International Market Square is a beautiful five floor building with a center open area with balconies on the top floors where dinner was served to the Eastview guests. After amazing catering and service from International Market Square’s finest, the night soon shifted to the dance floor. Eastview’s own Tyler Cropsey got the dancing started by taking his date out on the floor making a sight that everyone wanted to be a part of. All eyes were on Tyler and his date and before you could blink again everyone put down their silverware and joined Tyler for a party that lasted late into the night. Eastview succeeded again in making a night magical for all of their students.

It was a great game from the guys with the final score being thirteen to five. The next section game is at seven in the stadium on Tuesday. The state championship game is June Fifth. Lacrosse Team Beats Top Rated Blake

Last Saturday, the 16th of May, the boy’s lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season at home against Blake. Although the weather outside was ice cold, the team was hot. Rex Sanders started off the Lightning scoring. He had two goals in the first quarter. Blake answered with three goals of their own. After halftime, Captain Andy Freeman took over; he earned a hat trick by the end of the game. He led his team to a 7-6 win. The Lightning finished off the regular season strong with a victory over last year’s state champions. Up next, the boys play their first section game on Thursday May 21st.

Baseball Team Wins Home Tourney

On Saturday May 16 the Eastview High School baseball program hosted a small three team tournament. Eastview played host to the Simly Spartans and the Skippers from Minnetonka. The Spartans were Eastview's first opponent, and were no match for the Lightning. The swinging bats of Eastview combined for 16 runs, while  sophomore Tommy Jerle made the start, shutting down the Simly hitters. Off to a 1-0 start to the tournament, the Lightning faced a more formidable opponent in the night cap. Minnetonka effortlessly defeated Simly earlier in the day, which meant the game between Eastview and Minnetonka would determine the champion of the tournament. In the seventh inning Adam Shie's pinch hit single knocked in the game tying run, sending the game into extras. Pitcher Andy Dzieken shut out the Minnetonka hitters in the extra innings. Finally, in the ninth with the bases loaded catcher Robbie Sikich drove in the game winning run, giving the Lightning the championship.

Varsity Boy's Baseball :)

On Thursday, the 7th the boy's varsity baseball team took on Eagan. They got off to a rough start with Eagan getting 2 runs in the first inning and Eastview with no runs. Throughout the whole game Eastview lagged behind Eagan. Robby Sikich played a strong defense behind home plate. Pat O'Neil and Cody Groskreutz scored numerous runs for Eastview. The lightning tried their hardest but came up short with the final score being 11 to 5. Eastview's fans were very supportive throughout the entire game. Tom Bauer had the largest cheering section by far. Their next game is Wednesday vs Lakeville south at home at 4:15. They hope to pull out a win.

JV softball

The girls Junior Varsity softbal team won three games in a row on Saturday, May 9th. They participated in an eight team tournament, and they ended up finishing in FIRST place. Great team work and communication led to all the wins. The great and fun coaching staff also helped contribute to the wins. The girls played against Winona Cotter, Maple Grove, and North St. Paul. The girls won each game by a sginificant amount. Great play by all. With this championship, this puts the girls at a 13 and 2 overall record. Keep an eye on this JV team, they have a bright future. Nice job girls, and keep up the great work!

Softball Hosts Tournament

This past Saturday the softball team hosted an eight team tournament here at Eastivew. With games scheduled at 10, noon, and 2 it was a full day of softball for the team. In game one of three the girls faced Winona-Cotter. The lightning played hard but struggled to score runs, and hold down the Winona-Cotter offense, in a 6-1 loss. Losing meant the team could not take home the championship as they moved to the left in the bracket. Their next opponent was Sibley. The lightning hitters sprayed the ball around the field for a total of 14 runs, and Eastivew pitchers only gave up one run. It was a phenomenal performance by the whole squad. The win sent the Lightning to the consolation championship game versus Park. From the first inning the game was tight and could not be decided in six innings and thus went into extra innings. Unfortunately in the seventh Park scored one run to win the game 2-1. Eastveiw looks forward to the remainder of the season and the upcoming section tournament.

JV girls golf

Yesterday JV girls golf hosted a 15 team invatational at parkview. Each Eastview girl was given a hole to start on and played with 3 to 4 other girls. It started at 11:30 and ended around 4:30. I started on hole 17 and golfed with girls from Lakeville south, Madamidi, Owatona, and Eagan. Everyone had a fun time even during spats of rain but over all it was a beautiful day. Eastview didn't end up doing to well but Laura Appleton placed 13 overall. It was my first time playing a full 18 holes on the golf team shooting 110 and i met a friend! The group I golfed with had a range of talent with Megan from eagan shotting 91, Mary from Madamidi with 100, Morgen from Owatana with 102 and lastly Randi from Lakeville south with 108. Time flew by for the 5 of us because we were having so much fun!~brooke

H1N1 "Swine Flu"

H1N1 formerly known as the "swine flu" is a dangerous disease according to the Center For Disease Control(CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health(MDH). Dr. Peterson said that this isn't something to overreact to however it should be in your mind. Use caution when sneezing and coughing by covering you cough/sneeze with your elbow or a tissue. The school nurse also states that it is very important to wash hands and report any symptoms of the flu. If you have symptoms of the flu including, fever, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, and body aches check in with a doctor. As of Tuesday May 5th the Minnesota Department of Health is no longer requiring school districts to close the infected districts, instead they are leaving this important decision to the school districts. Few cases have been confirmed in the state of Minnesota, however many more are suspected. Due to the volume of suspected flu cases in Minnesota the Minnesota Health Lab will no longer test any flu samples unless the flu requires hospitalization. In addition the labs received new equipment allowing them to independently test the samples without having to send them to Washington.

Boys Lacrosse Game Monday, April 27

On Monday, April 27, the Eastview boys lacrosse played a tough game at home against the number one ranked, Minnetonka Skippers, the game ended with a 11, 8 loss. Juniors who scored were Rex Sanders, DJ Schliesman, and 2 from Ben Bauer. Seniors who scored were Andy Freeman, Blake Kleven and 2 from Matt Durand. The guys have only lost to one other team, Eden Prairie, but they played well in that one still with a 10, 8 loss. The team last year got 3rd at state, while 1st place went to Minnetonka and 2nd went to EP. Come out and join the fans that support the guys, before half time lacrosse balls are sold for a dollar and thrown at a hula-hoop at half for a chance to win gift cards to great places at every game! Games are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Wednesday’s game is against the Burnsville Blaze.

Hayley's Commercial

I think I'm going to do a commercial promoting the new changes to the Apple Valley Family Aquatic Center (located just past the loser lot). But I can't get any of the video for the commercial til they fill it up which won't be til like mid May or the end of May. And I'd like to somehow incorporate Forni's underwater camera. I can also interview my boss or find some other audio.

Boys Tennis Blog

On Friday, April 24th the boys varsity tennis team took on Chaska. Consistant, hard play from the entire squad let to the Lightning victory. They won 5-2. Will Biernat, and Josh Alland won in the singles portion of the tennis match. Doubles teams consisting of Brad Steckman and Rohit Yalimaraju, Rachit & Sam Cykosh, and Rob Witecha and Luke Sims all won for the lightning. The day started out a bit slow, the sun was blinding the players, but they kept up the hard work and perservered. The weather started to change, the sun hid behind the clouds, and the wind picked up-but so did the players. They began scoring easier and even had a few unexpected aces. An extremely close match for the #3 doubles team Rob Witecha and Luke Sims. They went back and forth scoring, but the boys finally pulled out a win. Another extremely hard match for Kevin Desmond, as he was recently switched to the #2 Singles spot. He held his own, but couldn't quite capture the lead. Keep up the hard work. Good luck to the guys as they take on Mounds View on Monday.

Eastview Ultimate

On Thursday April 23 the Eastview Ultimate Frisbee Team played at home against a St. Paul team who took 3rd last year at State. The team, zEUs played a great game while battling the strong winds. Unfortunetly Eastview lost by two points with a score 9 to 11. Great contributions to the game were made by Seniors Colin Burke and John Clawson and Junior Mark Brennan. The fans at the game showed great support for their classmates, and all seemed to be having fun watching such a exciting new sport at Eastview. Compared to the zEUs team last year the team has doubled in size, there are only high hopes for this team in the following years to come. Their next game is to be played again at home on the JV field this Thursday at 6 PM. Come out and enjoy the nice weather and support Eastview Ultimate!

TREVOR TROMBLEY BLOG # 1- THis is my blog about the girls Lax game.

The girls lacrosse team took on the Jefferson Jaguars on April 21. The girls had a strong start to the game but at half time the score was Jefferson 6 Eastview 5. Some of the highlights of the first half was that Senior Kaitly Leininger scored two goals and fellow senior captain Ashley Maskel Scored a goal. Lauren Murray also put one in the back of the net. Maskel started off the second half with a goal right way just seconds after the whistle. Jefferson than came right back and scored goals multiple times putting the Lightning in the hole. With less than two minutes left Leininger scored pulling the Lightning within three, and then sophomore Emily Snodgrass scored on a great run bringing them within two goals. The Jags held off the final surge by the Lightning and went on to win the game 9 to 7.

Julia Gulias Post :)

Hey Its Julia,
I did a open for this week it was hard to do because i only had two days to make it and i didnt have the amount of free time that was necesary but overall i think it turned out pretty good.

Nikki's PSA :)

I'm going to do a PSA on the importance of helping those who need it, like what boy scouts learn. I'm going to create a mock situation and see how many people actually help out. I don't know what the mock situation is yet, but I'll figure it out.

For my open I am not for sure what I am going to do yet but I am thinking about doing an open sort of like the Real world on MTV, or maybe mimic some sort of open on a program on T.V. but with a 4-cast/Eastview twist. I want to make it so people reconize it when they watch it.

B-rad's PSA

For my PSA I am going to show the importance of keeping the phone off while driving.

Amy's Commercial

This is Amy.
I am not exactly sure of what I am going to be doing yet,
